Quality & Traceability
With our background in international food exports, from day one quality and traceability have been key aspects of our work and core commitments of our people. From handling raw produce and managing food safety, through to real estate planning and equipment checks, we implement the most rigorous quality assurance policies and processes.
These measures help to ensure that our products meet customers’ expectations, and that our operations are of high commercial and ethical ‘value’.
Exceptional standards of quality, traceability and compliance shape everything that we do. This is what sets us apart in the Tanzanian market, and we work hard to ensure these standards permeate every aspect of our operations.
At all our fishery sites and processing plants, we deliver high-quality, safe and sustainable fish products for our national and international customers. We also carefully monitor our raw material sources. In the case of our poultry business, we derive all chicks from our own healthy parent stock, giving us total control of our sourcing and guaranteeing tasty, high-quality products.
In 2009 Vicfish Ltd became the first company in the world to achieve Naturland Wildfish certification and meet Naturland standards for Sustainable Capture Fishery. In support of our quality and traceability commitments, we have also achieved the following certifications across the Bahari Bounty Group:
- HACCP certification, verifying rigorous systematic approaches to food safety and risk managemen
- BRC certification, meeting international quality, safety and operational criteria and fulfilling legal obligations to consumers
- ISO-22000-2005 certification for food safety management
- HALAL certification, meeting production criteria for food consumption under Islamic law
These certifications mean our products are consistently monitored. With consumer safety at the top of our agenda, we also implement a comprehensive traceability regime from point of source to final packaging and delivery. This includes rigorous supply chain management, with unique codes allocated to all raw material suppliers and regular audits and assessments.
Additionally, we carry out due diligence in all record keeping and documentation, while our quality management system is based on Good Manufacturing/Handling Practices (GMP/GHP), which set out the minimum acceptable standards for the holding of live animals.
